USEFUL Travel Information

Please read the information on this page which is designed to help ensure your trip goes smoothly and without incident. The information here isn’t exhaustive and you are responsible for checking and making sure your party meet all of the necessary rules and regulations for your entire trip. A good place to start at the moment is seeing what the rules are whilst the Coronavirus Pandemic is still around https://bit.ly/adviceduringpandemic

Travelling to Europe - Things are changing following Brexit and if travelling after 1 January 2021 check that you have everything you need and it is in order.  https://bit.ly/europeantravelinformation

Travel Insurance is always important and we have always emphasised making sure you are covered immediately you pay your deposit. With the advent of Brexit this raises the bar rather more as you can no longer rely on being covered for your health under the EHIC card system and any accidents or injuries that may happen. Apparently, almost 30% of people do not take out any travel insurance although more like 20% for those travelling to France. It is one thing having a holiday cancelled and losing money but the sheer cost of covering health care whilst abroad is eye-watering and you ignore taking out a comprehensive travel insurance policy at your peril. Please be warned.  https://bit.ly/buyingtravelinsurance

Passports - Ensure your passport will still be valid. If you have a British Passport you need to have a minimum of 6 months left before expiry, as at your return date,  and your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years.

Driving - You may need extra documents from 1 January 2021 and an International Driving Permit (IDP) is an example. Apply here if you do. https://bit.ly/internationaldrivingpermit  Please note other factors such as what you need to carry in your car and also if you are visiting several countries then these items can vary. For France check here https://bit.ly/cartravelkit

It will pay to read up on the rules of the road as speeding fines are certainly more rigorously enforced and did you know if you have ANY sat nav speeding alerts on in your car then this can result in a 1,500 euro fine and your vehicle can be taken away! (Really!)

Check your route and if there is the slightest chance you will venture into a low emission zone then apply for the appropriate sticker for your car well before your travel. It isn’t expensive unless you don’t do it and get caught out! https://bit.ly/lowemissionzonesfrance

Mobile Phones - Roaming charges may again come into force so check with your providers how they deal with it bearing in mind the various people in your party may all have different providers.

Pets - You may have to apply to your vet 4 months prior to travel which does make things very difficult so make sure you know what is required https://bit.ly/pettravelabroad
